Do You Know Where I Got This One?

About a week ago, someone asked me on the Etsy Forums where I got the names for my beads and jewelry that I post in my Etsy Shop.

The names of the beads and sets come from a number of different sources. Sometimes, it's just what comes to mind when I see item. Sometimes color is the overriding item that gives the piece its name. sometimes it is what the piece reminds me of like a movie, favorite memory, a song, or something from a book--fact or fiction. The name doesn't have to make sense to anyone, but me.

So, with that in mind, let's see if you know where I got the name for this pair of earrings.

Using a base color of the hot new pastel purple I got, I decorated the beads with warm tan and brown shades from a silvered stringer. The silver creates the variation in the colors and makes these beads really stand out.

Strung on sterling wire with hematite bead accents, these earrings are ready for anything.

Their name, you ask? I'm calling this pair, "Voices Of The Mountains". Do you know where this reference comes from?

Wander Down An Afternoon Trail...

Sunny afternoon skies, dirt trails through a late summer meadow, warm wind on my face. The world alive in warm, earthy colors. These are just some of the images that come to mind when I think of walking along a trail in the afternoon.

These were the inspiration for this latest pair of earrings that I have named "Afternoon Trail". What a coincidence!

Unlike my earlier earring pairs, this set is hung from sterling silver posts with a spiral design on the front of the findings. Warm shades of tan, brown and orange all collide in the focal beads of this pair. Cream colored stone beads with a wonderful mottling of variation in the stone have also been included in this set with some zinc star accents. All hung on sterling wire.

This lovely pair will be added to my Etsy Shop in the morning and I hope you can stop by and take a look.

Feel Like A Treasure Hunt?

I guess it's actually not much of a hunt since you're here already and I'm going tell you what the treasure is and where you'll be able to find it tomorrow morning.

My latest set of earrings, "Amber Treasure" will be loaded into my Etsy Shop tomorrow.

This set of earrings has a warm amber glow from the opalino glass used in the lentil focals while dark trails of silvered stringers create a swirling pattern across their equators.

For those who may not know, opalino glasses are transparent when worked and darken in color while in the kiln. If the glass has not been worked too long, the beads will be semi-transparent in the finished product. I've had trouble with this type of glass before, but either I'm getting the hang of them or the new torch I bought last year is really bringing out the color in this glass. Maybe a little bit of both.

Either way, I really love how this set came out, and I hope you will too!

Are You Ready For Cosmic Drift?

My doctor's appointment this morning went just fine and the blizzard that they've been predicting to hit us tonight has apparently fizzled out, so we do not have to cancel our theater plans for tonight.  

This should be a lot of fun, and I'll be sure to let you know how "Jeeves Intervenes" turns out (not then ending, just how I liked it).

Cosmic Drift Coming To Etsy

A new set of medium Lentils is on its way to my Etsy shop in the morning.  The name of the set, "Cosmic Drift" really sums up the way this organic set of beads looks.

Using Ivory, Pink and Leaky Pen colors in the beads and working the glass with gravity for the unique patterns and swirls, this set is really timeless.  

Rich transparent blues are interspersed with clouds of pale pink and ivory, much like the nebula and nova in the cosmos.   

This set is not endorsed by the scientific community, and any resemblance to actual galactic phenomenon, past, present or future, is purely coincident.  

It's not Niagara, but watch out for Waterfall!

Good evening everyone!  I hope your weekend has been a great one.

Tomorrow, I've got another new focal bead going up into my Etsy shop.  This one is a captivating organic lentil that appears to have a waterfall on one side of the bead (if you use your imagination).

Organic beads make great ink blot tests, because everyone sees something different in them.  Perhaps the psychiatric community will start to use them for therapy...maybe not.  

There's a wide range of colors in this bead including blue, green, dark ivory, black and just a bit of violet to round out the palette. 

On the waterfall side, the ivory looks almost like the mist at the base of a waterfall, but I'll let you be the judge.  What do you think it looks like?

Welcome To 2008 - Goodbye Vacation

Back To Work

Well, I guess it was inevitable.  My vacation is over, and I'm returning to my full-time job tomorrow.  After being gone since December 13th, it's going to be quite a shock to be back. Since they didn't call me during my vacation, I can only assume that everything is running smoothly and I won't be walking into a big mess...hopefully.  

It will be nice to see everyone again. 

Grape Vines, Anyone?

I just got off the torch after spending a few hours creating three focal beads.  That's right, I did say 3 hours for just three beads.  These are more grape focals for spring.  While I've made these kind of beads before, I've never been completely happy with the backgrounds used on the beads.  These are going to a bit different in that they are solid color backgrounds which have been encased before having the grapes and vines added.  The grapes should float above the background for added depth and interest.  

If I like how they come out,  I'll experiment a bit with adding some additional patterns to the background, but I don't want it to be so busy you can't see the grapes.  Pictures will be coming later in the week.

New Set For Etsy!

I'll be loading up a new set of beads into my Etsy shop tomorrow morning before heading out to work.  This is a small set of lentils on a bright golden background and decorated with frit in shades of blue and green.    These little babies would make a terrific bracelet.  

I haven't decided on a name yet, but I've been thinking of Hawaiian Sunrise or Tropical Sunshine.   You'll just have to pop into Etsy to find out tomorrow!

Two Posts in One Day! New Shop Items

Wow,  two posts in a single day.  That's nearly a record for me, but I thought I'd start off the new year with a few new items in my store.

I'll be posting this lovely focal bead, Lava Flows, into my Etsy shop in the morning.  I love the deep, rich colors in this piece, and I'm very happy with how the bead came out. It's a truly remarkable bicone, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.

In the afternoon, I'll be adding this set of blue and tan lentils called Stony Brook.  Its a great pastel color combination for spring designs.  This is a fun little set that has a lot of flexibility in how it is used in your designs.  

I've got more beads to clean tomorrow in new shapes and designs, and I am hoping to get back onto the torch for the new Froggie Focals tomorrow.  It's been a while since I've made them, and they'll be great for Spring and Summer designs.

Another Christmas Gone - New Store Item

I can hardly believe another Christmas has come and gone, but it has.  It's been a wonderful holiday for us here, and I hope it has been for you too.

The post holiday events, like playing with Christmas presents, shopping with new gift cards, took up a good portion of yesterday, but I did get one new set listed into the shop.

While I do hope to get the sets listed here in my blog first, it just does not always seem to be happening that way, and for that I apologize. 

Tribal Summer was added to my shop yesterday morning, and it is a rich set of 6 lentil beads in bright orange with turquoise blue designs.  It just reminds me of a fun in the sun, and I hope you like them too.  You can view the new set in my shop HERE.

I've got a couple more lentil sets coming later along with several new focal beads that I need to get cleaned and photographed before they can go into the shop.
